Remember that you are researching what you think is one of the most important environmental issues facing us today! Some of you started with Popplet yesterday; I'm switching you over to Coggle.it today - it's so much better! It allows you to share and you can also work on the same Coggle on different computers at the same time with a partner. 1. Watch the screencast below: 2. If you need a refresher on how to start a new Coggle, watch the video below. 1. Click here to answer some questions about what environmental issue you'd like to do some research and present on over the next couple of weeks. 2. Connect to Coggle.it using your Google account. 2. Make a Coggle of questions you would like to answer about your environmental problem. Everyone has an opinion - we might also call it a bias - as to what the biggest environmental problems are facing our country and world in 2014. We may not agree with them all, but how cool that we can share them when we want to? Here are some links I'd like you to explore (warning: they have bias!). Spend some time scanning through them, watching the videos, looking at the photos. Then post a response below as to which problem YOU think is the biggest. Did the website convince you? I think that you could probably keep going and going, adding components and other features to your project. For now, we're going to just finish up the checklist you have to complete for your creative design and create a new post on your blog about it. This will take longer than one class period, so be patient with yourself and take your time! 1. Make sure you've saved your SketchUp project to your Google Drive account. 2. Take a screencast of your SketchUp project using QuickTime. Watch the video below for instructions. Watch it over and over if you need to. You might not get it right on the first try, so re-record until you're satisfied. Make sure you save it to your desktop AND drag it into Google Drive. 3. Go to Blogger and start a new Post on your blog. 4. Insert your video into your blog post. Watch the video below for instructions. 5. Below the video you inserted in Blogger, write a reflection.
Click here for your reflection questions. Today we played with capturing screen video using QuickTime Player on the Macs in our lab. Some students asked a great question: What if you don't have a Mac? There is a whole host of Screencapture programs out there for PCs, too. Here is a short list - some are free and some are only free trials with a purchase option available. Remember, never give out personal information online without your parents' permission!

Then answer the questions in the survey below. Tomorrow we will get together in groups and work on contracts and planners. Sometimes we get our needs and wants mixed up. We WANT the Furby but we might beg for it and tell someone we NEED it. We might NEED to buy milk at the grocery store but we might really WANT to get soda.
We've talked about what makes us happy and what makes our lives good. We've also talked about the way some other people live and what makes them happy or unhappy. We think about ourselves. We think about other people. What REALLY makes a good life? What do all people need in order to have a good life? Write your response in the comments here. I know, I know - it's what you've been asking for since Day 1!! We're going to go through a training activity first before we tackle a 'big' project, just so I know where we stand as far as how to do 'stuff.' After each activity, check in with Mrs. Hurlbert so I know you're on the right track and ready for the next step. If you have a grownup's permission, you can download SketchUp at home for free here. 1. Watch Google SketchUp Video Tutorials Part 1 2. Complete the Design Exercise 1 and save it to your desktop.
