Reading online can be tricky - lots of words! And where do you take notes if you're expected to type something in Google Docs or create a presentation? Diigo offers a solution that we're going to try out today. It lets us highlight important information on a page online and saves it to a library with the website, a link and any images we might want to save, as well. Let's try it out - I'm going to ask you what you think - if notetaking with Diigo is something you think might be useful or if you like the 'old-fashioned' pencil and paper method of taking notes better. There is not right or wrong answer!
1. Mrs. Hurlbert will walk you through getting Diigo as a Google Chrome extension. Make sure you're in Google Chrome!
2. Go to www.diigo.com We'll set up your Diigo account together - it will become part of Google Chrome and your Google Drive account so you'll have access to it whenever you log into google drive.
3. Mrs. Hurlbert will demonstrate how to use Diigo - highlight, take notes, look over what you've saved in the 'My Library' section. (If you forget, or if you want to go back and review how to do it, go to these video tutorials.)
4. This next step might take a couple of days. We did some exploration about the Underground Railroad last week. Today I would like you to check out some safe houses that existed during this time period. Go to this website: Aboard the Underground Railroad: List of Sites
Step 1: Choose a Site to learn more about. Click on it.
Step 2: Use Diigo to highlight important information or save pictures from that Site. You may even want to click on more links that are offered to you to get more information.
Step 3: Choose two more Sites and repeat steps 1 and 2 for each one.
Step 4: When you have taken notes in Diigo on at least 3 Sites, check them off in 'My Library' and Send To [email protected]
