Hello! My name is Tina Hurlbert and I am the computer teacher at Memorial Middle School in Middlefield, CT, which is a part of Regional School District 13. I will be celebrating 16 years of teaching this year though it often times feels like I'm still starting out, and other times it feels like I've been at this forever. I began my career at the Greenwich Country Day School, and after I earned my Masters in Elementary Education I moved on to the Foote School in New Haven. Since leaving Foote after the birth of my second daughter, I have worked in the Meriden Public School system and am now a member of District 13.
I'm kicking off my summer by beginning my SIxth Year Certificate Program in Instructional Technologies & Digital Media Literacy at the University of New Haven. My goals are to continue to learn about instructional technologies and also discover ways to expand our uses of technology instruction and integration in our district from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
I am especially interested in providing opportunities for our students to delve into STEM. The shortage of people choosing careers in STEM and being adequately trained to succeed at them is not a myth. The gender gap in STEM careers is growing, not shrinking. As a woman in the field of technology and the mother of two bright daughters, I feel compelled to do something about this. Join me as we navigate this road together.
